Off-Season Free Agency
In order to add a player to your roster during the off-season, you have to win that player in an auction.
Minimum bid for MLB players is $500k. Bids are based off of Average Annual Salary (AAS).
Minimum bid for Prospects is $100k.
Minimum increases are as follows:
Up to 24 hours since last bid - 500K minimum increase / 100K for minor league
24-48 hours since last bid - 1M minimum increase / 250K for minor league
48-72 hours since last bid - 2M minimum increase / 500K for minor league
Once the minimum increases it doesn't go back down to original limit. For example once the minimum increases to 1M it stays at 1M until 16 hours after the last bid then it increases to 1.5M.
If you post a bid on a player or nominate a player for auction, you can not delete that bid. If you win a player you don’t want, you will have to buy them out. (Added 03-26-14)
The bid has to stand for 72 hours before the GM wins the player. Once the player is won, the team has 48 hours to post a contract. If the contact isn’t posted within 48 hours, the player will be put back into free agency and a buyout fee will be added.
Players won in Free Agency can be given a minimum of 1 year or a maximum of 5 year deal.
Players won at a price below $750k can only be given a max of 2 years.
Prospects can be given up to 5 year deals at their minor league price, but once the player crosses the threshold or is called up, they will be given the Rookie contract.
If a minor league player is won for an AAS of $500k or greater, then their salary will remain the same in their 1st season on the 40-man roster and will increase by $500k each of the next 2 seasons.
Example: ML Player is won for 700k AAS. Once they are promoted to 40-man roster their contract will be $700k, $1.2M, $1.7M
International prospects that sign midseason are not allowed to be acquired until after the season. Players 24 and younger will be eligible to be drafted in our minor league draft. Players 25 and older will go into the Off-Season Free Agency
During the off-season free agency, you can not bid more then your cap space available. You also have to stay within the 40-man roster limits.
