We do this in our other league using the AAS, Average Annual Salary. We would limit it to 20% one way or the other. For example Player A is won at an AAS of $10M. So instead of singing him to a 3 year deal that looks like this; $10m, $10m, 10m. You could sign him to a 3 year deal that looks like this; $8M, $10m, $12M. So the 3 years combined have to average out to $10m per year and no year can be + or - 20% of the AAS. Just wanted to get everyone's opinion on this before rules are 100% finalized.

We've voted against this in past leagues I was in because it was too much of an administrative burden.

The nightmare as you refer to it doesn't have anything to do with this vote. That's a vote you 3 need to do and/or figure out. The commish put it out there so he must not mind doing the extra work, thanks to him for that.
This is a vote to determine if we want it and I say YES! It brings flexibility and even more importantly strategy to contracts.
